Wrapping Up

Last week each grade level wrapped up what we've been working on so that this week we can focus on summer reading and next week we can run our BOGO book fair. Last week was quite possibly my favorite week of the year!

Kindergarteners finished our Mo Willems study by watching Knuffle Bunny on Bookflix, then reading Knuffle Bunny Too and Knuffle Bunny Free. I just love Mo Willems. This author study was a really fun way to end the year.

First graders got to have fun playing with some of our new robots. They got to explore whichever robots they thought were interesting to them. A lot of kids really liked the drones, of course, but they liked lots of the others too. It was super fun!

Second graders practiced using the Destiny Quest app to search for books in our library & then go find them on the shelves. This was really great practice & they did a great job! Each team had to find one picture book, one fiction book, and one non-fiction book of the same topic.

Third graders created their book talks for picture books. Last week we worked on a SWBST graphic organizer to summarize the book, and this week they recorded, using either the Chatterpix app or using the greenscreen. A few students still need to finish, but overall they did a very nice job!

4th graders finished up their Greek mythology studies by playing Jeopardy. I used a Promethean template to create the questions & answers based on the Britannica online articles that the students had read and taken notes on. I used a buzzer that I found on Scratch & hooked up the Makey-Makey to some playdough to use as buzzers. It was awesome! The winning team in each class got a little treat. The kids had a great time!

Book Donation

Back at the end of February we celebrated a Random Acts of Kindness Week. One of the ways we celebrated was by having a donation piggy bank at our book fair. The money from the piggy bank was used to buy books for a local hospital.

When we took the piggy bank to get counted, there was over $187, as well as a bit more money back at school. Whoa! We were able to buy 6 sacks of books and activity books from the book fair to take to the hospital.

Our student council delivered the books last week. They handed them off to the children's coordinator, Michelle, and she told us she'd send pictures of kids receiving the books. It was such a great experience!

Crazy February

What a winter! I haven't updated in a long time, because well, we haven't been in school for a long time! This past week we actually...
